Well, you might think the immediate answer is “Yes.” But that’s not necessarily the case. Forgiveness is an act of undeserved favor toward someone. It is instant. It is not earned. But trust is having complete confidence that someone is who they say they are and does what they say they’ll do…it’s earned over a period of time. If someone steals from me, I can forgive them and be completely sincere, but that doesn’t mean I’ll ask them to watch my house when I’m gone. . . not until they’ve shown that they can be trusted to make the right choices.
