It is still essential to teach your children about the Stranger Danger basics?
Go into detail with your children, telling them every possible scenario you can think of such as, a stranger may offer them candy, ask them to help them find a puppy, tell them that their parents or a brother or sister has been hurt and they have been sent to get them. Make sure that your child understands that whatever scenario comes up, they are not to believe it unless the person knows the secret password.
What you should tell your children about strangers:
- Never talk to strangers. A stranger is
any person whom you do not know well. Never answer questions, give directions, accept gifts, help an unfamiliar person find anything, or walk up to a stranger in a car. - Always be suspicious, not to assume that all strangers are trustworthy.
- Never leave with anyone other than a parent or someone that a parent has approved of.
Never give out personal information over the telephone and never tell a caller that you are alone Never answer the door without an adult present. Always ask permission of a parent or guardian before you go anywhere and never go anywhere alone. If you see something suspicious, or if someone makes you feel scared or un- comfortable, scream and run. Go some- place that you feel safe and tell an adult you trust, like a parent or teacher.
