The Importance of a Good Breakfast

Printer Friendly Version

Whether the reason is because of a rushed schedule or an attempt to cut on calories, breakfast seems to be the most frequently dismissed meal. But breakfast is essential to a healthy lifestyle, according to Carole Lewis in the book, First Place.

First, your body needs to have an appropriate blood sugar level in order to provide enough energy for your daily activities. When you awake in the morning, you have essentially gone through a several-hour fast. Your body needs food in order to resupply the body with glucose. Otherwise, mood and performance can be affected.

In a study by the University of Iowa, both children and adults who ate breakfast were more productive during the morning and even had faster reaction times.

Lewis also encourages eating breakfast in order to gain those extra nutrients and vitamins needed for good health.

Take the time to start your day off right by eating something nutritional.

This article is based on the book, First Place, by Carole Lewis with W. Terry Whalin.
